This man really can do no wrong. In what has been a fantastic offseason for NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen, he simply hasn't stopped working since late January. Schoen has made countless great decisions to improve the roster.
Now, though, he's doing things to improve his front office as well. Take his latest move for example. According to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, Schoen has hired former Titans and Panthers executive Ryan Cowden.
If that name sounds familiar, it's because he was actually in the hunt to take over as Giants GM before Schoen got the job. It turns out Cowden has ended up in New Jersey with Big Blue after all.
The NY Giants and Joe Schoen hiring Ryan Cowden is a smart call
Cowden, who will serve as Schoen's executive advisor per Jordan Raanan, has more than 20 years of experience. He spent the first 16 years of his career with the Carolina Panthers before joining the Tennessee Titans. Last season, he served as interim GM when the Titans fired Jon Robinson in early December.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Cowden, who didn't get the permanent GM in Nashville, was no longer with the team. With him and Schoen knowing each other so well, it has opened the door for the two to work together in East Rutherford.
Before taking over as interim GM for the Titans, Cowden was Tennessee's VP of Player Personnel. He's widely respected across the league and a lot of people think he's no question got a future as a GM sooner than later.
Schoen knows this, which is why he's surely excited to have him close by for the 2023 campaign. The Giants are coming off a 9-7-1 season and a great showing in the NFL Draft. This Cowden news only adds to what has been a brilliant past few months for Schoen and Co.
