NY Giants and Brian Daboll get best news possible on Malik Nabers injury scare
A ton of NY Giants fans went into panic mode when out of nowhere, star wide receiver Malik Nabers appeared on the injury report. Nabers was dealing with a knee issue, which made things even worse for the first-round pick.
The fear was that with No. 1 banged up, he could potentially miss the Week 2 contest against the Washington Commanders, a game the Giants desperately need to win to try and save their season already. Luckily, it looks like a crisis has been averted for Brian Daboll and Co. According to beat writer Pat Leonard, his sources are telling him Nabers is doing fine and he should be ready to rock to take on the Commanders:
Malik Nabers Injury Update: Giants WR should be fine for Week 2
This is the best news possible. Per Leonard, one of his sources even went as far to say that Nabers is at 100 percent, he was just dealing with a little soreness, which caused him to pop up on the injury report. This could have been a case of the G-Men being extra careful with their offensive savior.
Nabers will have a couple of extra days to rest and then put the pads on for his first taste of action against an NFC East rival. In his regular season debut against the Vikings, the No. 6 overall pick led the team with five catches for 66 yards from starting quarterback Daniel Jones.
Following the game, Nabers expressed how disappointed he was with the loss, but he also said that he needs to keep working on things to help this team post wins. His list of things to work on includes putting himself in a better position for Jones to get him the pigskin.
While it was nice of Nabers to try and deflect negative talk off his QB, the fact of the matter is that Jones has to play much better against Washington if this team is going to have a shot at posting a road upset.
Jones' two interceptions, including the Andrew Van Ginkel pick-six, were brutal to watch in the season-opener. He could be playing for his job against Washington. The good news for Danny Dimes is that barring a last-second change, he'll have his stud wideout out on the field ready to make plays for him. In the end, it's looking like things with Nabers have proven to be a small injury scare and nothing more.
