NY Giants legend supports Daniel Jones after tough start to 2024 preseason
By Mike Luciano
Any discussion around the New York Giants will inevitably feature a referendum on the overall performance of quarterback Daniel Jones. After stinking it up to begin the preseason, the number of Jones defenders is gradually starting to shrink.
Still, Jones has some very big names showing their support. Franchise legend and two-time All-Pro Justin Tuck thinks that Jones can still have a fine season with the Giants. Tuck believes that much of the Jones hate is a byproduct of him playing his regular season games in New York.
Tuck spoke with FanSided in partnership with a soccer clinic hosted by Abbott and Real Madrid, which featured former athletes taking part in drills while coached by Real Madrid coaches themselves.
"He really hasn't played that bad to be honest with you," Tuck said in an exclusive interview with FanSided and Stacking The Box. "It's just tough in New York because everything gets magnified to the 10th degree. I'm really rooting for him."
Tuck also said that he needs to play smarter and not hold on to the ball too long, highlighting his now infamous throw against the Houston Texans in New York's preseason game. Obviously, Tuck knows those throws simply can't happen if the Giants want any shot at being remotely successful.
Justin Tuck believes Daniel Jones has path to success with Giants
Jones has to stop with the ill-timed turnovers. With his sixth professional season underway and a gigantic contract that pays him like a high-end quarterback, it is completely reasonable for Giants fans to ask for a bit more out of their starting quarterback.
Tuck did mention that he believes the Giants didn't have the pieces around Jones to be successful early in his career, comparing it to the beating that Eli Manning took to start his NY playing days. While he is correct in saying negative energy from the media is fairly common in New York, Jones also hasn't been holding up his end of the bargain.
While many Giants fans want to turn the page on Jones and either reboot with a young quarterback or sign a competent veteran, Tuck is still holding out hope Jones and Brian Daboll can put it all together in 2024. Jones still has the support of a very vocal section of the Giants organization and collection of past players.
