The rivalry between the NY Giants and Philadelphia Eagles has only gotten spicier this offseason with Saquon Barkley packing his bags and joining Big Blue's rival. Thanks to Hard Knocks, we've gotten a close look at just how things went down between Barkley and Joe Schoen.
A viral clip from the show that people can't stop talking about is when Schoen got on the phone with No. 26 and told him to hit the open market, something Saquon wasn't thrilled about. While speaking to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, Barkley called Schoen out a little bit, saying he knew things were done with the Giants as soon as he and his now former GM ended their conversation:
Saquon Barkley gives his side of the NY Giants free agency story
"It was over after that phone call (with Joe Schoen) in my opinion. I never in my heart truly believed that they were going to match it, or they only wanted me for a lower price, so like no matter what, I probably wasn't going to go back. "Saquon Barkley
Throughout the offseason, you had a feeling that Schoen wasn't willing to give Barkley the kind of money he was hoping for. On Hard Knocks, Barkley's agent revealed the top offer the RB had on the table, and Schoen quickly said the Giants were out.
It felt like the sky was falling when it was announced that Barkley was signing his three-year, $37.75 million deal with the Eagles, but Schoen told John Mara the Giants were going to be just fine. Mara didn't want Barkley to leave town, let alone make his way to Philly, but this is how things have played out.
People have continued to showcase their frustration with the two-time Pro Bowler signing with Howie Roseman and this latest clip is already drawing plenty of negative feedback on social media. Even more of that will be on the way leading up to the two Giants-Eagles meetings in 2024.
