These days, NY Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is living his best life. With minicamp right around the corner, Wink, who said he hopes to retire with Big Blue, is jacked up to see his new-look defense ramp things up in terms of getting ready for the 2023 campaign.

Martindale is understandably excited to see what No. 24 overall pick Deonte Banks can get done this summer before Week 1 arrives. From the moment the Giants used their first-round pick on the standout cornerback, Martindale has been all smiles.

While speaking to the media earlier this week, Wink doubled down on his confidence in the youngster's abilities. Seriously, Martindale loves this kid already:

Wink Martindale said having Deonte Banks is like winning a scratch off ticket

"“I think it’s important to have a cornerback like that in anybody’s defense,” Martindale said. "He’s very instinctive. What’s Ted Lasso say? He lives life like a goldfish. He’s got a short memory when things don’t go right. He’s tough-minded, he’s physical, he can tackle and on top of that he can run. We're excited about it. He's getting into the groove. You know there's still some rookie mistakes, which you expect that, especially this early, but we're really excited and I was obviously really excited when we got him. It's like winning a scratch off ticket.""

That's an incredible quote from Martindale and one that has plenty of fans talking. It's no secret that cornerback was a big problem for the Giants last season, which is why so many people were excited to see general manager Joe Schoen trade up to land Banks at No. 24.

Banks is exactly the kind of defensive back who can become a stud in a Martdinale-type of defense. During OTAs, Martindale and Brian Daboll didn't waste any time in getting Banks some reps in with the starting unit. The training wheels have come off for him.

With minicamp coming next week and training camp inching closer and closer, fans will get a closer look at what Banks can get done with this defense. Thus far, things are looking pretty damn good for him and his swagger is only going to keep on growing with Martindale backing him like this.
