The New York Giants and Saquon Barkley’s breakup has been one of the most talked-about stories in the NFL this season, but if you ask the man himself, he’s over it. Barkley, now thriving with the Philadelphia Eagles and preparing for his first Super Bowl, made it clear that he’s done with the constant discussion surrounding his departure from New York.

After a viral Super Bowl media day exchange with free-agent quarterback Jameis Winston, where some thought Barkley threw subtle shade at the Giants, he responded on social media in a since-deleted tweet: “I literally said Dabs (Brian Daboll) gonna get you right… This thing with me and Giants is so played out.” The tweet has since been deleted, but the message was clear—Barkley is tired of hearing about it. He's over it.

While Barkley may be ready to move on, the conversation isn’t going anywhere. His record-setting season in Philly, combined with the Giants’ miserable 3-14 collapse, has kept his name at the center of every debate about New York’s offseason blunders. Tough for just about everyone else to just move on.

Saquon might be over it, but Giants fans... and just about everyone else isn't

From the moment Barkley signed with the Eagles, the Giants and their fans knew this was going to be painful—just ask Giants owner John Mara. But nobody expected this level of success. Barkley’s 2,005-yard season, 13 touchdowns, and Super Bowl appearance have turned what was already a controversial decision into one of the biggest front-office disasters in franchise history.

The Giants, meanwhile, spiraled into irrelevance without him. Their running game wasn’t the issue—rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. filled in admirably—but Barkley’s impact went beyond stats. His leadership, versatility, and ability to take over games were things the Giants couldn’t replace, and it showed every Sunday.

And while Barkley says he’s moved on, plenty of people haven’t. Former Giants WR Brandon Marshall called out the team for letting him go. Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux got into a social media spat defending the front office. Even national sports shows are still clowning Joe Schoen for allowing this to happen.

At some point, Barkley won’t have to answer these questions anymore. Maybe after the Super Bowl, maybe after a few years. But as long as he’s lighting up the rest of the NFL, and the Giants are struggling to do anything relevant, this will remain a storyline the league refuses to let go of—whether Saquon likes it or not.
