The New York Giants are certainly missing Jason Pierre-Paul. Their pass rush has been nothing short of pathetic. The only player who deserves some credit is Damontre Moore, but he can’t generate a pass rush all by himself. The thing is, no one knows where Pierre-Paul is or how his health is fairing.
Pierre-Paul was supposed to report to the Giants’ facilities this week so they could get updated on his injury. Not to anyone’s surprise, he never showed up. According to Dan Graziano, he should still show up by the end of the week. Pierre-Paul has still not signed his franchise tender either.
The fact that Pierre-Paul is avoiding the Giants is not good. His injury may not be healing properly or as we keep finding out, may be worse than anyone is letting on. In my personal opinion, I think Pierre-Paul won’t see the field until next season if the Giants decide to keep him.
It’s obvious that Pierre-Paul wants his money, but the Giants aren’t going to give it to him. I highly doubt he signs his franchise tender unless the Giants feel that he can be the same player he was before his accident. Those odds are getting more unlikely as this fiasco continues.
If Pierre-Paul somehow escapes the Giants’ again this week, I think they should rescind his franchise tag. He is not acting like a professional athlete with the way he is handling this. There is clearly a lack of trust on both parts that doesn’t seem to be getting better.
Neither party wants to meet in the middle and that issue has the makings of a disaster. If Pierre-Paul thinks that the Giants are going to pay him almost $15 million just to let him ride the bench, he’s crazy.
The Giants defense is missing his dominant presence, but I think Steve Spagnuolo will find a way to survive without him. The Giants pass rush is nothing special, but they still have some young playmakers that could be developed into stars.
