New York Giants: They Can’t Take Care Of Business

The New York Giants squandered an opportunity to take a two game lead in the NFC East by losing to the Washington Redskins. The Giants made it interesting in the fourth quarter, but they did next to nothing in the first three quarters. This game could have propelled them on their path to the playoffs, instead the Redskins now control the NFC East.

The Giants and Redskins have identical 5-6 records however the Redskins own the tiebreaker due to a better record against NFC East teams. The Giants have been criticized for not finishing all season long but that wasn’t the problem today. Today the Giants didn’t even start. They turned on the jets with just ten minutes remaining when they answered  a 4th and 16 with a Rueben Randle touchdown.

Eli Manning threw three interceptions. He played horribly for most of the game. The Giants drove down to the red zone in the third quarter hoping to cut into the 17 point lead of the Redskins and Manning threw a pick. Receivers dropped passes. Jay Bromley had a foolish roughing the passer penalty (that sounds familiar). The Giants had no pass protection whatsoever today. Not one thing went right in the first three quarters other than a blocked field goal.

This team may have a problem closing out football games but they have a bigger problem than that. This is a team that just can’t take care of their business. The Giants came back to make the game interesting. Two weeks ago the story was almost beating the undefeated Patriots. That’s great Giants, do you want a cookie? I’m sick of the moral victory caveat after games. At the end of the day this tIn a game the Giants had to have, they played their worst football. This team can’t take care of their business. It is a problem that keeps rearing up. eam just needs to man up.

The Giants have made a mess. Now I’m sure the Giants will say the right things and tell you they still intend to win the NFC East. They will tell reporters that they just have to go out there and play hard every week and all that good politically correct stuff. It’s like that look your puppy gives you when it has done his business on the kitchen floor. You know the Giants mean well, but there is still a mess to clean up and it has been a long day.

The Giants just aren’t a very good football team. It is time to face that fact. The Giants are 5-6. They have a losing record. Every loss has one thing in common. The Giants beat themselves. In week one and two the Giants gave up a fourth quarter lead. In the Giants loss today, they didn’t do anything well until it was too late. It sounds a lot like the complete dysfunction that handed the Giants a 27-7 loss to the Eagles in October.
