It's finally here! The New York Giants' initial 53-man roster has been released. Following training camp and the last preseason game, the team was tasked with trimming its roster from 90 to 53 ahead of Week 1, which resulted in several difficult decisions for Joe Schoen and his front office.

One of the most challenging decisions the G-Men had to make was at the quarterback position, when the team ultimately released fan favorite Tommy DeVito. A lot of players like DeVito, who were waived, could clear waivers and get signed to the practice squad or sign on to another team's 53-man roster to start the season.

So, just because the team looks like it does right now, it does not mean this will be the Big Blue's final roster come Week 1, with several players around the league still on waivers. For now, let's look at three takeaways from the Giants' initial 53-man roster inspired by ESPN's Jordan Raanan post on X.

3 biggest takeaways from the New York Giants' initial 53-man roster

1. The Giants are keeping three running backs, not including Turbo Miller.

The Giants are keeping three running backs on their roster, which includes starter Tyrone Tracy Jr., Cam Skattebo, and veteran Devin Singletary. One player who did not make the team is 2023 undrafted running back Dante "Turbo" Miller, which may come as a surprise to many, given his impressive camp and preseason performance, with 26 rushes for 80 yards (3.1 yards per carry) and 14 receptions for 135 yards.

The biggest surprise of the roster cuts may be defensive tackle Elijah Chatman, who the team was also using him as a fullback to block for Skattebo throughout the preseason. Hopefully, both Chatman and Miller clear waivers and join the Giants' practice squad.

2. The Giants keep just three safeties, could they be claiming a fourth on waivers?

The G-Men are keeping just three safeties on their initial 53-man roster in Dane Belton, Jevon Holland, and Tyler Nubin, but they may not be done when it comes to improving at that position. The Giants did release Raheem Layne and Makari Paige and are very heavy on cornerbacks right now, as they are keeping seven, including rookie Korie Black, Nic Jones, and Art Green, which may come as a surprise.

This means that the Giants are either planning to pick up a fourth safety off waivers or one of their players listed at cornerback could also play safety. One player Big Blue could target off waivers is veteran safety Mike Edwards, who was released by the Kansas City Chiefs and is expected to draw interest from several teams.

3. The Giants are keeping their entire 2025 draft class on the 53-man roster.

Lastly, the Giants are retaining all seven of their draft picks from the Class of 2025, which includes first-round picks Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart, as well as Darius Alexander, Skattebo, Marcus Mbow, Thomas Fidone II, and Black. Not only did all seven of the G-Men's draft picks make the team, but also undrafted wide receiver Beaux Collins, who has had an impressive offseason and made the roster over the likes of Lil'Jordan Humphrey and Greg Dulcich.

This is not the first time all of Big Blue's draft class made the 53-man roster. In fact, every single year since Schoen and Brian Daboll have taken over, that has been the case. It speaks to how well this regime has drafted, making Giants fans excited about the future, knowing they are consistently getting NFL-ready players in every round.
