The NFL Trade Deadline is just around the corner, and the New York Giants are expected to be sellers. As trade rumors swirl, Big Blue is far from at the center of the madness, but Joe Schoen is always doing his due diligence on finding ways to add more draft capital.
The trade chips are minimal this season in New York — Devin Singletary, Jalin Hyatt, Jameis Winston, and Evan Neal are among the names that stand out, but the same can't be said for the rest of the NFC East. Both the Cowboys and Eagles are expected to be buyers, while Washington is one of the league's biggest wild cards.
Both Dallas and Philadelphia are searching for help on the defensive side of the football, which could be bad news for the G-Men. As it stands, more big names could be traded on defense than offense, and the idea of a game-changer landing with a division rival is scary.
With that said, here are the three trade deadline deals (one for each team) that Giants fans would hate to see go down—especially since this team is last in the division as is.
3 NFC East trades Giants fans would be furious about seeing before the deadline
1. Trey Hendrickson to Philadelphia Eagles
This would be a classic case of the rich getting richer. The Philadelphia Eagles are desperate for help off the edge, and Trey Hendrickson is available for the taking. The NFL's reigning sacks leader would be a perfect fit next to Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, who would make up for his weakness against the run.
Things got so bad for defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's defensive line that he team brought Brandon Graham out of retirement to help address the issue. A trade at this position is looming, but acquiring Hendrickson would come with paying the 30-year-old a lucrative long-term deal, and he wouldn't come cheap.
Eagles GM Howie Roseman is no stranger to big swings, and it's not unthinkable that the Bengals would trade him amid this contract dispute, and this would be an instant terror for New York's offensive line.
2. Quinnen Williams (or Maxx Crosby) to Dallas Cowboys
After trading Micah Parsons right before the season, Jerry Jones has been looking to make a splash on Dallas' defensive line. Apparently, the Cowboys inquired about Maxx Crosby, but a deal of that nature feels unlikely. However, the same can't be said for Jets star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
Yes, I know the Cowboys landed Kenny Clark in the Parsons trade, but Williams is one of the best interior linemen in the NFL. The 27-year-old has been named to three straight Pro Bowls, but New York GM Darren Mougey has dangled him on the trade block.
The No. 3 pick back in 2019 has the versatility to play both defensive tackle and defensive end, and could provide a massive boost to DC Matt Eberflus' defense. And like Hendrickson, he could make the job even more difficult for the Giants' front line.
3. Breece Hall to Washington Commanders
While the other two division rivals could use help on defense, Washington would be best suited to pursue offense. After trading Brian Robinson Jr. to San Francisco before the season, the Commanders have lacked a true RB1, and Austin Ekeler's Achilles tear didn't help.
That's where Breece Hall comes in. The fourth-year Jets star is entering a contract year with Gang Green, and could be one of the biggest names moved at the deadline. However, this isn't a short-term move, as Kliff Kingsbury would salivate over RPOs with Hall and superstar quarterback Jayden Daniels.
As impressive as seventh-round rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt has been this season, acquiring the former Iowa State standout is a considerable upgrade. It would make the Washington offense that much scarier, and it could provide the offense with another spark for their playoff push.
Unfortunately, Giants DC Shane Bowen's defense struggled enough to contain this offense back in Week 1, so a splash from Adam Peters would be bad news for Bowen's group. And even Washington bringing in Alvin Kamara before Tuesday would be a nightmare in East Rutherford.
