Brian Daboll has quick call at LT if Andrew Thomas is out for the rest of 2024
Injuries happen every season in the NFL, but come on, what is it with the NY Giants always getting bad news? Star receiver Malik Nabers has missed the last two games with a concussion and now it's looking like one of the most important players on offense will be out for the rest of the year.
In the Sunday Night Football loss to the Bengals, Andrew Thomas was hobbling around late and it was later revealed he'd undergo an MRI. Now, the worry is that he's going to need to undergo surgery and miss the rest of the season. Just brutal news for this team.
This is the best the offensive line has looked in a long, long time. With Thomas at minimum set to miss a significant amount of time, who will take over at left tackle? Leave it to The Athletic's Dan Duggan to talk some sense into everyone during this tough time. Duggan's plan would see veteran Jermaine Eluemunor move over to LT from right tackle and plug in either Joshua Ezeudu or Evan Neal on the other side. Hey, we think that's a solid plan:
Moving Jermaine Eluemunor to left tackle would make a ton of sense for the NY Giants
With Thomas now hurt, Eluemunor is easily the best tackle on this team. It's not ideal for this Thomas adversity to be here, but it's time for Daboll and Co. to get creative. Eluemunor protecting Daniel Jones' blindside must be in the works.
Then at right tackle, you have your pick between Ezeudu and Neal. Ezeudu has dealt with inconsistent play since joining the Giants, so he's not a super sexy pick there. On the other hand, Neal has proven to be a first-round bust over the 2022 and 2023 campaigns.
He's coming off ankle surgery too, which helped Eluemunor snatch his starting right tackle spot and never give it back during the offseason. Now, Eluemunor might need to switch spots and Neal, who could also be a LT option, could jump back to his old starting position.
We'll know more about Daboll's plans once the Giants get back on the practice field, but Eluemunor taking over for Thomas feels like an easy call for the staff.
