Who has two healthy ankles and the ultimate stamp of approval from Gary Davenport entering 2026?
Cam freaking Skattebo. That's who.
The Bleacher Report writer recently listed the New York Giants' running back as one of his eight biggest comeback players to watch entering 2026. Around the Tri-State Area, nobody needed an outsider’s opinion to know that -- Big Blue Nation has been counting down the days until Skatt's back on the field deleting defenders.
The human-sized fire hydrant was just finding his groove before a brutal Week 8 dislocated ankle injury cut his rookie campaign short. The 24-year-old finished with 410 rushing yards and five scores on 101 attempts, while adding 207 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Not bad for a guy who started seeing increased action in Week 3.
The return of Cam Skattebo changes everything for Giants' offense
Davenport highlighted how vital the young back is to New York's offense, especially with star receiver Malik Nabers's health still up in the air:
"There's quite a bit of enthusiasm surrounding the Giants this year, in no small part because of the young offensive core of quarterback Jaxson Dart, wide receiver Malik Nabers and Skattebo," he wrote.
"Of that trio, Nabers is the least likely to be ready for the beginning of the regular season, which could result in the Giants leaning even more heavily on Skattebo and the ground game early on."
Before his injury, Skatt topped 90 all-purpose yards in five straight games, scoring five total touchdowns during that stretch.
With Leek still working through his own ACL recovery timeline, Skatt’s return has never been more important... or eagerly awaited. He was recently spotted taking handoffs at mandatory minicamp and looks like he's on track for Week 1.
Fans will get an even clearer picture of where he's at when training camp kicks off in late July.
To say new head coach John Harbaugh has bought into Skattebo's Tasmanian Devil energy would be an understatement. Harby, an old-school ground-and-pound guy himself, leaned fully into the vision by bringing fullback Patrick "Pancake Pat" Ricard into the fold during free agency.
The idea of Skatt and Pancake Pat -- do we start calling them Pancake Skatt (?!) -- sharing a backfield is exactly why Giants fans are ready to run through telephone poles themselves. Give me 10,000 all-purpose yards and a hundred touchdowns next year.
Good luck to opposing defenses surviving that 60-minute objective nightmare of combined chaotic energy, as defenders will be forced to make business decisions all afternoon -- to get pancaked into oblivion, or to not, that is the question. If Skatt picks up right where he left off, Big Blue’s offense is going to look a whole lot different with him back out there.
