When the New York Giants selected Francis Mauigoa with the 10th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, it became clear they saw him as an answer to their offensive line woes that have persisted for years--but this is also a story Giants fans have seen several times before, with other supposed saviors on the OL.
Most recently, it was Evan Neal. A young, huge lineman who had the IQ to become a bookend starter for the next decade. Unfortunately, New York quickly realized that Neal didn't have what it takes to be their right tackle of the future, and that's why he is barely holding on with a new coaching staff.
As far as Mauigoa goes, he probably has more in common with Ereck Flowers than Neal. In fact, the parallels are uncanny. They're both top-10 lineman who came out of Miami who were drafted to play tackle but eventually kicked out inside. But the Giants are hoping he fares better than Flowers did.

Flowers lasted just three-and-a-half seasons with Big Blue before getting cut midway through 2018, and was one of the worst tackles in football. Across his first three seasons (2015-2017), he surrendered 169 total pressures, which was the most by any offensive tackle in the NFL across that time frame.
Thankfully, the similarities between Flowers and Mauigoa end there. The Giants are planning to play the 21-year-old at right guard and keep Jermaine Eluemunor at right tackle, and believe it or not, that is actually going to help him adjust to the speed of the NFL since he's better suited to play guard.
And it just so happens that right guard was the weakest position on the offensive line last season. At 6-foot-6 and 329 pounds, the consensus All-American lineman was one of the best pass-blockers in the country and is a mauler in the run game, which is a major difference from his fellow Hurricane.
There's a reason Sisi was considered a lock to go in the top-10 and one of the best linemen in this draft class. He's the type of player who can help out an offensive line from Day 1, especially when the alternative to him is having to endure 17 games of Greg Van Roten or Daniel Faalele at RG.
Giants fans definitely still have some wariness from Ereck Flowers, but seeing Mauigoa stand out in the spring is giving them a reason to believe entering training camp. As much as helmet scouting may raise alarms, Francis Mauigoa is about to break the G-Men's streak of bust linemen.
