The emergence of Cam Skattebo and the return of Tyrone Tracy Jr. from injury have the New York Giants staring down the barrel of an obvious trade deadline move. Veteran running back Devin Singletary is on the outside looking in, and is a likely trade candidate with the Nov. 4 deadline looming.
In Big Blue's 34-17 victory over the Eagles, the 28-year-old only touched the ball three times, which is tied for his second-lowest total of 2025. Singletary currently serves as the the RB3 on New York depth chart and has club control through 2026, so it's no surprise NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo see him as an obvious trade candidate.
While Rapoport and Garafolo see the former Bills third-round pick as a goner, there's a clear destination emerging. The Los Angeles Chargers lost Najee Harris for the year due to a torn Achilles and now first-round rookie Omarion Hampton is on IR, and now the team is looking for help at RB.
Devin Singletary's next NFL destination is painfully obvious
In 2025, the FAU product has amassed just 82 rushing yards on 24 carries, while his 3.4 yards per carry is a new career-low. However, he is just two years removed from a 900-yard campaign and has starred as a lead back before.
He handled a bell cow role in both Buffalo and Houston, surpassing 800 rushing yards in three consecutive seasons from 2021-2023. But he remains one of the Giants' best leaders, and one of the players most familiar with Brian Daboll's vision.
If you know how Jim Harbaugh operates, you know he loves to run the ball, yet the Bolts are stuck with Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal until Hampton returns from his ankle injury. And for a team averaging over 120 rushing yards per game, that won't cut it.
While bigger names like Breece Hall and Alvin Kamara are unlikely deadline acquisitions for the Chargers, perhaps a cheaper option like Singletary, Jerome Ford, or Dameon Pierce is the avenue GM Joe Hortiz takes.
After Saquon Barkley left for Philadelphia, the Florida native reunited with Daboll to serve as New York's lead back, but that decision has crashed and burned. His 437 rushing yards in 2024 marked a career-worst, and he lost his job to Tracy at the end of last season.
There were moments this summer where Singletary was regarded as a potential offseason cut candidate, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that his days in New York are numbered, especially after Skattebo's breakout Week 6 performance.
If Singletary gets moved in the next three weeks, it could pave the way for the preseason darling Turbo Miller to assume his spot on the active roster, while he will receive another opportunity to help a team competing for a playoff spot.
