Malik Nabers is already chasing greatness but one thing could derail it all

After a record-setting rookie season, Malik Nabers is drawing Offensive Player of the Year buzz before Year 2 even kicks off.

There is nothing more exciting than knowing the Giants have found their modern-day Odell Beckham Jr. in second-year wideout Malik Nabers. The former LSU standout torched defenses as a rookie, tallying 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns while catching passes from Daniel Jones.

Even though the move to Indianapolis has served Jones well, we all know he isn’t a world beater at the position. This makes his dynamic rookie campaign all the more impressive; he thrived despite inconsistent quarterback play and a shaky offensive line.

Even in the league’s 31st-best offense in 2024, Nabers stood out as the clear top option and a bona fide superstar. And now Russell Wilson is in town, a quarterback with the skill set to help the up-and-coming pass-catcher continue to take the NFL by storm.

The 36-year-old isn’t the quarterback he was in his prime, but is still plenty capable of launching the deep ball to speedsters like Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton, and Jalin Hyatt.

But the hype for the 22-year-old has reached an all-time high. Last Word on Sports’ Zach Jonkman penciled in the Pro Bowler as a dark horse pick to be crowned Offensive Player of the Year in 2025.

“Russell Wilson may not be a superstar anymore, but he’s a major improvement over what Nabers had last year,” Jonkman wrote. “Nabers will be dominant on all three levels in the pass game and will benefit greatly from Wilson’s ability to throw the deep ball well.”

Injuries are the only thing standing in the way of Malik Nabers’ ascent to superstardom

Nabers and Wilson have immediately developed a rapport in training camp, one that has Giants fans foaming at the mouth for the season to be upon us.

Three of the Super Bowl-winning signal-caller’s first four touchdowns in Giants camp have gone to No. 1, which is a sign that the connection between them is dangerous– and only growing stronger.

He’s been exploding, but concerns do still persist for the 2024 No. 6 pick. He injured his shoulder at practice on Tuesday morning early reports suggest he will be okay, but this still isn’t news fans want to hear about a franchise cornerstone. Especially considering that injuries derailed OBJ’s career amid his prime.

Nabers also revealed on the Up and Adams show that he’s still dealing with the toe issue that sidelined him during OTAs, saying, “It’s like a mosquito that doesn't wanna go away”.

Still, it’s hard not to feel the excitement building around East Rutherford. With Nabers, Wilson, Hyatt, Robinson, and the running back tandem of Skattebo and Tracy, Giants football finally has some serious juice again- and Mike Kafka has plenty of exciting weapons in his arsenal.

With that said, the Nabers hype train isn’t just picking up steam, it’s full speed ahead.
