What do you call a 34-17 primetime home victory over one of your most hated rivals? A step in the right direction. At 2-4, the New York Giants are in no position to be complacent after their most impressive win, probably since 2022’s playoff miracle in Minnesota.

But it’s surely encouraging, especially when it’s the reigning, defending Super Bowl champs you embarrass. Before their Thursday night clash, the G-Men officially signed placekicker Jude McAtamney and linebacker Neville Hewitt to their 53-man roster, opening two practice squad slots.

And ahead of their Week 7 Sunday afternoon matchup in Denver, they’ve filled both openings — with one player potentially giving them a hidden advantage.

Giants sign Jonas Griffith and Juice Wells Jr. to practice squad

Big Blue has signed former 49ers and Broncos linebacker Jonas Griffith and Giants’ undrafted rookie training camp invite Juice Wells Jr. to the practice squad.

Wells is an interesting signing, since he was a former teammate of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart at Ole Miss. He hung around for a bit before being let go. It seems as though general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll aren’t done with him just yet.

But the name to keep an eye out for is Griffith.

Not only are the G-Men reeling when it comes to fielding sufficient linebacker depth, but the 28-year-old could come with some juicy Mile High secrets to share. The former undrafted free agent spent nearly three seasons in Denver before making his way east.

Most of his time in Denver was spent on Injured Reserve. He never quite stayed healthy. Griffith ended both 2021 and 2022 on IR before missing all of 2023 due to an ACL injury, which required a second season-ending surgery in 2024. So he likely doesn’t have too much knowledge of the intricacies of the Broncos’ current defense, but any insight helps.

Big Blue already tried something similar heading into Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs, calling up linebacker Swayze Bozeman.

He’d been raised through the ketchup and mustard’s practice squad before making his way to East Rutherford to start against his former team. It didn’t work out then, but maybe the second time’s the charm.

The Giants are in the middle of becoming just interesting enough to the point where they can’t be ruled out of every contest before it begins. This is a frisky team on the rise, led by a potential rockstar rookie class. If the G-Men want to prove to everyone they’re legit, a massive road victory over the Broncos — led by Griffith’s super-secret intel — could be exactly what the doctor ordered.
