Evidently, Kyle Williams and the New England Patriots aren’t easing into summer workouts.
Shortly after the Patriots finished Wednesday’s OTA practice, Williams — a 2025 third-round pick — took to Instagram and seemingly shared his frustration with the day’s intensity and workload.
“Ain’t no way OTA’s feeling like training camp,” Williams wrote. “N it’s only day 2????????”
As of publication, neither Patriots coach Mike Vrabel nor the organization had addressed Williams’ post. Instagram stories expire after 24 hours, and it was unclear whether Williams had deleted the post beforehand. The 23-year-old Williams may have picked the wrong time to complain, and the New York Giants should be paying close attention.
Should the Giants pursue Kyle Williams if the Patriots made him available?
Williams caught 10 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie, though most of that damage came on a 72-yard score.
Williams added two receptions for 14 yards during the Patriots' Super Bowl run.
On the one hand, it’s admittedly incredibly easy to wonder whether the Patriots would elect to take calls on a potential Williams trade.
Then again, the Patriots are widely expected to acquire Eagles receiver A.J. Brown within the coming weeks, and Williams could theoretically become available afterward.
The Giants could definitely afford to add another receiver, especially with Malik Nabers still working his way back from last year’s knee injury.
Given his age alone, Williams would arguably be a far superior option than former Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who remains linked to the Giants.
It’s nonetheless difficult to envision the Patriots trading Williams this summer, even after Wednesday’s Instagram post.
Anyone who has followed sports for the last decade knows that athletes have made some truly egregious, offensive, or just outright stupid Instagram or X/Twitter remarks.
Williams did nothing wrong, and the fact that his post was solely an Instagram Story makes it impossible to determine his tone.
Only the truly miserable among us would point to Williams and call out his maturity, though we’re sure some Patriots fans — and trolls, of course — felt the need to complain.
In the end, this whole thing is a nothing burger.
The far greater story is whether the Patriots will trade one of their young receivers, namely Kayshon Boutte, if or when Brown officially arrives.
Boutte, who is entering the final year of his contract, is not participating in OTAs. He also skipped voluntary workouts earlier this month.
As for Williams, he should be glad that teams no longer hold two-a-days.
