Latest Giants injury report presents major problem on defense to face Cowboys
After picking up their first win of the season over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the New York Giants now have a short week to prepare for their next game. Big Blue is set to take on the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football at Metlife Stadium with both NFC East squads sitting at 1-2.
Despite Dallas heading into this game on a two-game skid, they have had the Giants' number over the last several seasons, as they have won the last six matchups against New York. Also, Cowboys' quarterback Dak Prescott has not lost to the Giants since his rookie season in 2016. Despite the Giants' win over the Browns, with the offense and defense looking impressive, the Giants' defense may be down two key players in their secondary against an elite Cowboys offense.
Dru Phillips and Adoree' Jackson are expected to miss Week 4
The Giants secondary will be short-handed in their Week 4 matchup against Dallas as rookie cornerback Dru Phillips and veteran cornerback Adoree' Jackson will both likely not be on the field as they're dealing with calf injuries. While Brian Daboll does not anticipate that Phillips and Jackson won't go on Injured Reserve, they will both be missed on Thursday night.
Their absence on the field against the Cowboys this week will surely be felt, as with an undermanned secondary, the Giants' defense will have their hands full trying to maintain wideouts CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert. After being outscored by 89-17 in both of their games last season against the Cowboys, these injuries to the Giants' secondary are massive. Dak Prescott will look to have a field day.
While the Giants are expected to have cornerback Nick McCloud back, who missed the last two games with a knee injury, losing both Phillips and Jackson won't be ideal as the Giants' schedule does not get any easier after Week 4.
We can only hope that Phillips and Jackson will only miss this upcoming game, as the Giants' next four opponents after the Cowboys all finished last season with a winning record. It will be on Deonte Banks, Cor'Dale Flott and others to step up their level of play for this primetime matchup.
