The New York Giants are sitting at a woeful 2-8 on their bye week, as their 2024 season has been a total disaster. From terrible play at the quarterback position, questionable play-calling, and the lack of production on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, Big Blue has plenty of questions that remain unanswered.

With another season likely ending without a postseason appearance, the Giants need to find a way to close out this rough year on a positive note. As they head into their bye week, Joe Schoen and the front office must answer these three key questions.

3 biggest questions facing the NY Giants front office heading into the bye

3. Is Brian Daboll still the right man for the job?

After an over exceeding first season as head coach in 2022 for Brian Daboll that saw the Giants not only make the playoffs but even win a playoff game, the last two seasons have been disappointing, to say the least. After going 9-7-1 in year one, 2023 saw the Giants go 6-11 and now at 2-8 this season, another losing season seems imminent. Despite John Mara expressing confidence in Daboll, the front office should still ask themselves if he's the right man to turn this ship around that continues to sink.

We all thought Daboll would help elevate the Giants' offense which struggled for two years under offensive coordinator Mike Kafka. But that hasn't been the case as New York's offense still ranks at the bottom of the league in scoring. Daboll has also made questionable decisions going for two after scoring touchdowns with none of the attempts panning out as the Giants' offense has gone 0-for-6 on two-point tries thus far.

Daboll seems in over his head. In his three seasons as head coach, he’s gone 17-26-1 in the regular season and just 4-11 within the NFC East, including a 0-4 divisional start in 2024. If you can’t win in your division, success in the regular season and a playoff appearance becomes unlikely. While Mara has publicly supported Daboll, if the season continues to spiral and the Giants end up with another high draft pick in 2025, the front office must consider whether he’s part of the problem rather than the solution.

2. Does Jalin Hyatt have a future on the Giants?

The 2024 season has been puzzling and disappointing for wideout Jalin Hyatt, whom the Giants drafted in the third round in 2023. After showing promise as a rookie, Hyatt has largely been a non-factor in the Giants' offense, leaving many to wonder if he has a future in New York.

Although he didn’t score a touchdown in his rookie season, former Tennessee Volunteer Jalin Hyatt still managed 23 receptions for 373 yards over 17 games, even notching his first 100-yard game against the Patriots in Week 12, which earned him the NFL’s Pepsi Offensive Rookie of the Week. After a promising training camp that had many expecting a breakout sophomore year, Hyatt has hit a slump, recording just five receptions for 45 yards and no touchdowns so far this season.

If Daboll and the Giants offensive coaching staff won't get him more involved on offense throughout games, does the front office have a plan for Hyatt after this season? If they don't envision him being on the team next season, they should move on from him and hope to get good compensation in return.

1. Will Daniel Jones be with the team in 2025?

Every Giants fan is asking the same question: is Daniel Jones done in New York? It’s been another rough season for the former sixth overall pick, with just eight touchdown passes to seven interceptions. That $160 million contract he signed in March 2023 isn’t looking like it’s paying off. This has to be the biggest question facing Big Blue’s front office - what’s their plan with Jones?

At 2-8, the Giants’ season is all but over, raising the question of whether they should bench Jones and see if either Drew Lock or Tommy DeVito can provide a spark. Both Lock and DeVito have shown flashes, with Lock having his moments as a starter for the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. And who could forget when DeVito surprised everyone by leading the Giants on a three-game winning streak last season, becoming a fan favorite with his “Tommy Cutlets” nickname?

With a high pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and a talented quarterback class on the horizon, the Giants may have no choice but to select a new signal-caller. It’s hard to envision Daniel Jones as a New York Giant in 2025 or even finishing out this season.

Aside from their playoff run in 2022, the last six years with Jones at the helm have been rough, and the numbers back it up. With the Giants entering their bye week, now is the ideal time for the front office to assess the quarterback position.
